  • Child Labor

    Today, throughout the world, around 215 million children work, many full-time. They do not go to school and have little or no time to play. Many do not receive proper nutrition or care. They are denied the chance to be children. More than half of them are exposed to the worst forms of child labour such as work in hazardous environments, slavery, or other forms of forced labour, illicit activities including drug trafficking and prostitution, as well as involvement in armed conflict.

    Minimum Age for Work

    The minimum age for admission to employment among the member States ratifying Convention No. 138

    • 15 - 73 member States
    • 16 - 41 member States
    • 14 - 49 member States
    One of the most effective methods of ensuring that children do not start working too young is to set the age at which children can legally be employed or otherwise work. The main principles of the ILO’s Convention concerning the minimum age of admission to employment and work are listed below.
    • Hazardous work
      Any work which is likely to jeopardize children’s physical, mental or moral heath, safety or morals should not be done by anyone under the age of 18.
    • Basic Minimum Age
      The minimum age for work should not be below the age for finishing compulsory schooling, which is generally 15.
    • Light work
      Children between the ages of 13 and 15 years old may do light work, as long as it does not threaten their health and safety, or hinder their education or vocational orientation and training.






      Child labour that is proscribed under international law falls into three categories:
      The unconditional worst forms of child labour, which are internationally defined as slavery, trafficking, debt bondage and other forms of forced labour, forced recruitment of children for use in armed conflict, prostitution and pornography, and illicit activities.
      Labour performed by a child who is under the minimum age specified for that kind of work (as defined by national legislation, in accordance with accepted international standards), and that is thus likely to impede the child’s education and full development.
      Labour that jeopardizes the physical, mental or moral well-being of a child, either because of its nature or because of the conditions in which it is carried out, known as “hazardous work”.

      Child Labour and Poverty


      Poverty and economic shocks clearly play an important if not a key role in determining the market for child labour. Child labour in turn contributes to the perpetuation of poverty. For example, recent empirical findings by the World Bank from Brazil demonstrate that early entry into the labour force reduces lifetime earnings by some 13 to 20 per cent, increasing signifi cantly the probability of being poor later in life.

      However, poverty in itself is not a sufficient explanation of child labour, and it certainly fails to explain some of the unconditional worst forms of child labour.

      Child Labour and Human Rights


      A human rights perspective is necessary for a fuller understanding of child labour, as it focuses on discrimination and exclusion as contributing factors. The most vulnerable groups when it comes to child labour are often those subject to discrimination and exclusion: girls, ethnic minorities and indigenous and tribal peoples, those of low class or caste, people with disabilities, displaced persons and those living in remote areas.

    বহুল আলোচিত খাদিজার ফেরা আমায় খুশি করতে পারে নি । অবাক হওয়ার মত মনে হলেও আমার কাছে এটাই সত্য । আপনিও আমার সাথে একাত্ততা পোষন করবেন ।           
    “খাদিজা-বদরুল” আমাদের সমাজের জন্য একটি হৃদয়দিয়াক ও কলংজনক অধ্যায় । এ ধরনের ঘটনা আমাদের সমাজে হর-হামেসাই ঘটছে । মিডিয়ার কল্যাণে হয়তো এক খাদিজার গল্প উঠে এসেছে আমাদের মাঝে, কিন্তু মিডিয়ার অন্তরালে কত হাজার খাদিজা রয়েগেছে তার সংখ্যা নির্নয় করা আদ্য সম্ভব নয়।

    প্রিয় পাঠক, নিজেকে একটিবার প্রশ্ন করুন, আপনার পরিচিত মহলে এমন কেউ কি নেই যে প্রেমের প্রস্তাব পত্যাখান করার কারণে ধর্ষিত হয় নি ? যৌন হয়রানির স্বীকার হয় নি? আপনার পরিচিত মহলে এমন কেউ কি নেই যে,যাদের পড়াশুনাই বন্ধ হয়ে গেছে এই প্রেম প্রস্তাব পত্যাখান করার কারনে ? আপনার পরিচিত মহলে এমন কেউ কি নেই যে এসব সহ্য না করতে পেরে আত্যহত্যার পথ বেছে নিয়েছে ? এমন কেউ কি নেই যার ফ্যামিলি আজও হুমকির মধ্য দিয়ে জীবনযাপন করছে? এমন কেউ কি নেই যে,প্রেমের পস্তাব পতাখ্যান করায়, আজও তার বিয়ে দেওয়া সম্ভব হচ্ছে না? নিশ্চয়ই খুজে পেয়েছেন নাম না জানা অনেক খাদিজাকেই, যারা আজও ফিরতে পারে নি।



    আমি আপনাদের কিছু ঘটনা মনে করিয়ে দিচ্ছি যা আপনারা সবাই জানেন । খাদিজার ঘটনাটা ঘটার কিছু দিন আগেই হত্যা করা হলো তনুকে । কি ছিল তার অপরাধ ? বিষয় একটাই, প্রেমের প্রস্তাবে অস্বীকৃতি । নিরাপদ বেষ্টনীতেই তার জীবন নিয়ে নেয়া হয়েছিল । এই ত কিছু দিন পূর্বে সিলেটের দক্ষিন সুরমা উপজেলায় ৮ম শ্রেণীর ছাত্রীকে মারাত্মক ভাবে যখম করা হয়, এই প্রেম প্রস্তাব প্রত্যাখান করা হয় । দর্জির হাতে ৮ম শেণীর ছাত্রি খুন। এসব আসলে নিত্য নৈমিত্তিক ঘটনা । এভাবে হাজারও খাদিজা ঝরে পড়ছে, ধর্ষিত হচ্ছে , মৃত্যুর সাথে পাঞ্জা লড়ছে আমাদের এই সভ্য সমাজে । যা হয় তো মিডিয়ায় বেসে বেড়ায় না,  কিন্তু আমার আপনার চুখে সামনেই ঘটছে এই ঘটনা প্রতি নিয়ত। ক্ষমতার অপব্যবহারে ফলে অধিকাংশ অপরাধীরাই শাস্তির আওতায় আসে না।  আবার শতশত খাদিজা নিজেই মুখ খুলে না লোকলজ্জার ভয়ে। যার ফলে প্রতি নিয়ত আমাদের সভ্য সমাজ কলংকিত হচ্ছে,  আর বাড়ছে খাদিজাদের সংখ্যা।

    আসুন সচেতন হই, এক খাদিজা নয় হাজারও খাদিজার পাশে দাড়াই, সাধারণ শিক্ষার পাশা পাশি নৈতিকা শিক্ষা বিকাশ ঘটাই আমাদের ছাত্র সমাজে । রাজনৈতিক অপব্যবহার বর্জন করে অপরাধিকে আইনের আওতায় আনয়নে সর্বদা চেষ্টা অব্যহত রাখি। ভাল বন্ধ-বান্ধবের সংস্পর্শে থাকার চেষ্টা করি , তাহলে তাদের কাছ থেকে সুপরামর্শ পাওয়া যাবে।অবিভাবকদের আরও মনযোগি হতে হবে তাদের ছেলেমেয়েদের উপর।

    আর most important  বিষয় হল যে, উপস্থিত বুদ্ধি বৃদ্ধি করতে হবে । বিশেষ করে বর্তমান সময়ে তরুনীদের এই গুনটা থাকা জরুরী ।খাদিজা হয়তো বেচে যেতে পারতো সেই দিন, যদি প্রেম বস্তাব মেনে নিত। পরে না হয় পরিবারকে বলত পারতো সব কিছু।

    আমি হয়ত খাদিজাকে বাচাতে পারছি না, তাই ভারাক্রান্ত হৃদয়ে বলছি,যদি অস্ত্রহাতে প্রেমের প্রস্তাব নিয়ে আসে, প্লিজ খাদিজা মেনেজ করে নিস" 
    তাহলে অন্তত জীবন দিতে হবে না মানুষরূপী চতুষ্পদী কাপূরুষদের হাতে।

    আমরা সবাই কমবেশি অনেক ধরনের লাইটের সাথে পরিচিত। ঘরে, অফিসে, রাস্তা ঘাটে সব জায়গায়ই অনেক ধরনের লাইট ব্যবহার হতে দেখি। কিন্তু মোশন সেন্সর লাইটটি সম্পর্কে আমরা অনেকেই পরিচিত না। তাই প্রথমেই আমরা মোশন সেন্সর লাইট সম্পর্কে পরিচিত হয়ে নেই ।

    মোশন সেন্সর লাইট কি?

    মোশন সেন্সর লাইট সম্পর্কে জানার আগে আমরা মোশন এবং সেন্সর কি, তা জেনে নেই। তাহলে আমাদের বুঝতে
    সুবিধা হবে। মোশন (Motion) শব্দের আবিধানিক অর্থ হচ্ছে গতি, চলন বা বেগ। আর সেন্সর (Sensor) শব্দের বাংলা অর্থ হচ্ছে সংবেদন, তাহলে আমরা বলতে পারি গতির সংবেদনশীলতাকে কাজে লাগিয়ে যে লাইট ব্যবহার হয় তাকে মোশন সেন্সর লাইট বলে। তাহলে আমরা এখন নিশ্চয়ই মোশন সেন্সর লাইট সম্পর্কে ধারনা পেয়ে গেলাম।
    এখন আমাদের মনে প্রশ্ন জাগতে পারে, জীবনে কতো রকমের লাইট ব্যবহার করলাম এবং লাইটের ব্যবহার দেখলাম, কিন্তু এই লাইটের ব্যবহার কি হতে পারে? তাহলে চলুন আমরা এখন এর কাজ এবং কি কাজে ব্যবহৃত হয় এই সম্পর্কে জেনে নেই ।

    মোশন সেন্সর লাইট কিভাবে কাজ করে?

    মোশন সেন্সর লাইট বর্তমান প্রযুক্তির একটি অন্যতম আবিস্কার । এই লাইটটি ব্যবহৃত হয় শরীরের তাপ এবং তরঙ্গ দৈর্ঘ্য ব্যবহার করে। তাই বলা যায় এটি খুবই নির্ভরযোগ্য একটি প্রযুক্তি । আমি একটি বাস্তব উদাহরণ দেই, তাহলে আপনাদের সবার বুঝতে সুবিধা হবে। আপনার অনেকেই দেখেছেন কারও বাড়িতে বা অফিসে প্রবেশ করার সময় অন্ধকারের মধ্যে হটাত করে দুই,একটি লাইট স্বয়ংক্রিয় ভাবে জ্বলে উঠে, মূলত এই গুলাই মোশন সেন্সর লাইট । আশাকরি লাইটটির কার্যকারিতা সম্পর্কে আপনাদের একটি ধারণা চলে হয়ে গেছে। এই লাইটগুলা কাজ করে অনেক গুলা প্রযুক্তির মাধ্যমে ।

    মোশন সেন্সর লাইটের ব্যবহারঃ

    এই লাইটটির বহুমুখী ব্যবহার রয়েছে । লাইটটি প্রধানত ব্যবহৃত হয় নিরাপত্তার কাজে। কারণ যেকেউ এই লাইটের আওতায় চলে আসলে সেন্সর তা ধরতে পারে এবং সাথে জ্বলে উঠে, ফলে চোর ডাকাত ভয় পেয়ে পালিয়ে যাবে।
    এছাড়াও এই লাইটটি আপনি আপনার ঘরে বা অফিসে ব্যবহার করতে পারবেন। লাইটটি বিদ্যুৎ সাশ্রয়, কারণ যখন আপনি রুমে প্রবেশ করবেন, তখনই লাইটটি জ্বলবে। ফলে অতিরিক্ত বিদ্যুৎ ব্যবহারের সুযোগ নাই। এই লাইটটি স্বয়ংক্রিয় ভাবে জ্বলে বিধায় সুইচের ঝামেলা নাই, তাই অন্ধকার ঘরে কষ্ট করে সুইচ খোঁজার প্রয়োজন হচ্ছেনা।

    উপরোক্ত ব্যবহার ছাড়াও এই লাইটটি আরও অনেক কাজে ব্যবহার করা যাবে ।l

  • ঘরের মেয়ে,ঘরে ফিরে এলো, মনুষ্যত্যের জয় হলো




     সিলেট এম.সি. কলেজের পরীক্ষার্থী খাদিজা আক্তার নার্গিস, দীর্ঘ দুইমাস মৃত্যুর সাথে পাঞ্জা লরে, সুস্থ ভাবে ঘরে ফিরে এলেন।
    যার সুস্থতার পিছনে জনগণ, চিকিৎসক, এবং সরকারসহ অসংখ্য মানুষ এর অবদান অনিস্বীকার্য।

    খাদিজা বলেন, সবাই যদি সহযোগীতার হাত না বাড়াতেন, তাহলে হয়তো তিনি সুস্থভাবে বাসায় না ও ফিরতে পারতেন। সেই সাথে তিনি, মহান রাব্বুল আলামিনের শুকরিয়া আদায় করেন।



     গত ৩ অক্টোবর, সুন্দর জীবন গড়ার প্রত্যয়ে পরীক্ষায় অংশগ্রহন করতে গিয়ে তার জীবনে নেমে আসে এক মর্মান্তিক অধ্যায়। সিলেট সরকারি মহিলা কলেজের শিক্ষার্থী খাদিজা পরীক্ষা দিতে গিয়েছিলেন এমসি কলেজ ক্যাম্পাসে।  পরীক্ষা শেষে যখন বাসায় ফিরে যাবেন, তখন এমসি কলেজের পুকুরপাড়ে শাহজালাল বিজ্ঞান ও প্রযুক্তি বিশ্ববিদ্যালয়ের অর্থনীতি বিভাগের অনিয়মিত শিক্ষার্থী বখাটে বদরুল আলমের আক্রমনের শিকার হন খাদিজা। প্রেম প্রস্তাবে রাজী না হওয়ায় নরপশু বদরুল তাকে জনসম্মুখে চাপাতি দিয়ে কুপিয়ে মারাত্মকভাবে আহত করে। চাপাতির কোপ পড়ে, রক্তাক্ত হয়ে লুটিয়ে পড়েন মাটিতে। আশপাশের মানুষ এই দৃশ্য ভিডিও ধারণ করলেও খাদিজাকে সাহায্য করার জন্য প্রথম অবস্তায় কেউ এগিয়ে আসেনি। কিন্তু বদরুল যখন খাদিজাকে আহত করার পর পালিয়ে যাচ্ছিল ঠিক ওই সময় খাদিজার সাহায্যে এগিয়ে আসেন ইমরান কবির। তিনি আরো দু-তিনজনের সাহায্যে তাকে নিয়ে যান ওসমানী হাসপাতালে। সেখান থেকে সেদিন রাতেই খাদিজাকে ঢাকার স্কয়ার হাসপাতালে নেওয়া হয়। গ্রেফতার হয় বদরুল। এই ঘটনা নিয়ে গরম হতে থাকে সোস্যাল মিডিয়া । প্রতিবাদের জড় উটে দেশে বিদেশে।  


    দাবি উঠে বদরুলের ফাসির। চারদিক থেকে ধিক্কার জানানো হয়, আর পাশাপাশি খাদিজার সুস্থতা কামনায় পার্থনা করা হয়। অবশেষে সুচিকিৎশার পর খাদিজা আক্তার নার্গিস মৃত্যুকে জয় করে সুস্থভাবে মায়ের নীরে ফিরে এলেন....!
    হ্যা, খাদিজা ফিরে এসেছে, মৃত্যুকে জয় করে সে ফিরে এসেছে আমাদের মাঝে। কিন্তু আপনি জানেন কি,এই রকম লক্ষ লক্ষ খাদিজা, বাংলাদেশের প্রতিটি দ্বারপ্রান্তে, প্রতিনিয়ত  নির্যাতিত হচ্ছে। যাদের অনেকের খবর আমরা জানিনা বা রাখিনা।

    আমাদের সবাইকে এই রকম হাজার ও খাদিজার পাশে দারাতে হবে। তা না হলে ঢাকার উইলস লিটল ফ্লাওয়ার উচ্চ মাধ্যমিক বিদ্যালয় এর অষ্টম শ্রণীর স্কুল ছাত্রী ছুরাইয়া আখতার এবং কুমিল্লা ভিক্টরিয়া কলেজের ছাত্রী সোহাগী জাহান তনু'র মত হাজারো খাদিজার প্রাণ এইভাবে নীরবেই চলে যাবে।

    বদরুল-খাদিজা আমাদের সমাজের জন্য একটি হৃদয়বিদারক ও কলংজনক অধ্যায়। এধরনের ঘটনা আমাদের সমাজে প্রায়ই ঘটছে। এসব থেকে আমাদের শিক্ষা নিতে হবে। খুজে বের করতে হবে এই অবক্ষয়ের কারণ, খুজতে হবে তার প্রতিকার।
    ১. নৈতিক শিক্ষার অভাবঃ সাধারন শিক্ষার পাশাপাশি আমাদের নৈতিকতার দিকে গুরুত্ব দিতে হবে। মনুষ্যত্ব জাগরনে নৈতকতা অপরিহার্য। যা আমাদের পরিবার থেকে একমাত্র শিক্ষা নেওয়া উচিত।
    ২. উপস্থিত জ্ঞান বৃদ্ধি করতে হবেঃ খাদিজা হয়ত নিজেকে রক্ষা করতে পারতো,  যদি সে তার উপস্থিত মেধাকে কাজে লাগাতে পারত।
    ৩.রাজনীতির অপব্যবহারঃরাজনীতির অপব্যবহার থেকে আমাদের বেরিয়ে আসতে হবে।
    ৪.ভাল বন্ধু-বান্ধব নিরবাচনঃ.ভাল বন্ধু-বান্ধবের সংস্পর্শে থাকা।  তাহলে তাদের কাছে থেকে সুপরামর্শ পাওয়া যাবে।
    ৫. অবিভাবকদের খেয়াল থাকাঃ অবিভাবকদের তাদের ছেলে মেয়েদের প্রতি বন্ধ সুলভ আচরণ এবং খেয়াল থাকতে হবে।
    তাহলেই,আমাদের সমাজ থেকে এই ধরনের সামাজিক অবক্ষয় রুধ করা সম্ভব।
